Wildboars and foxes
In February I had several opportunities to take down foxes but I was not lucky all times and two times I failed completely but on the other hand I managed to get two down.
The beaver hunt was great from a social point of view and if I had sighted correct one beaver would of been bagged but it came to close on 5m so I shoot underneath it. The water level was very low in the rivers so the beaver was out in the large lakes instead.
A two days buck hunt on Bornholm was great. Unfortunately I only got one small buck at my stand and I decided to let him pass. My target was six pointers.. Maybe next year the same buck will pass by.
The wild boars are increasing and we have too many of them so it’s important to hunt as often as possible.
This Thursday I was out scouting the area on "the mountain" I sat in the stand for only 10 minutes when I heard a familiar sound and after a while a noticed the boar on 30m. He walked around the food plot for quite some time before he came out on the grass. It was just before the dark took over so I didn’t need to use my Pulsar night scope. The Swarovski + the Sako 308 made the work and a Keiler weighting in on 135kg went to the ground.
Two fly fishing trips to the fly stream in Blekinge in March resulted in 16 fillets in the freezer.
December and January activities
My interest for keeping the blog floating and up to date are going like a roller-coaster. Anyhow I will only post some pictures of successful hunts this time together with one story.
Today was the last day of driven hunt with loose dogs and we heard the dogs barking and pursue animals but no shoots were fired. Now there will be more time for stalking fallows and keeping after the boars.
The picture above is worth a comment. I have been on paternity leave a few months now and my little girl is 14 months old. She often takes a dinner nap of two hours and this day in January the sun shined so I planned the hunt very accurately. She feel a sleep when arriving to the hunting area and I walked with the wagon 500m and started the baby watch and took a stand 200m from her so I could observe her and the surroundings. After 1 hour a hind and a calf came walking in the bushes and after 10 minutes the calf came into a opening and I whistled so the calf stopped. My 308 Sako-85 black syntetic made the job and the calf took a few stacking steps and fell to the ground. Then the work began dragging the calf back but everything fell well out and when the calf hanged cleaned up in the stable my daughter woke up unaware of what just happened. A memory to be told in the future…..
November hunt
November month has been a successful hunting month this year. Some driven hunts and some alone hunts which is my favorite.
I am still chasing a bigger i fallow and I have seen them a few times but the shoot opportunity haven’t been perfect so I will await a better chance.
Tonight I will go after the boars which are visiting some of our feeding places frequently.
Fallow calf
Sugar beet boar
Wild boar
Last week I was out protecting our crops. The evening before my hunting buddy noticed a group of sows and piglets but the wind destroyed the hunt for him. After a while around 9 PM the boars came out of the forest starting to feed the new planted seed. They came over my steps and smelt me but I was fast enough to shoot a small 20kg piglet.
Two days after my other buddy shoot a colourful male boar at the same field. Tomorrow we will go out after them again they tend not to understand this is a very dangerous place to feed at.
Coloful boar again
Fallow deer success
There are a lot of fallow deer especially on one of the hunting areas. I have been very careful with the population during more than a decade and shooting one or two deer’s per year except for last year when I increased the harvesting a bit. We made a rather large feeling last year in February and in May we planted new forest of pine and spruce threes.
The cutting areas are very popular places both for fallow and roe deer´s to fed at. In the morning of the season start a friend and I took two stands and waited for the animals to come out.
In my stand a fox came after an hour and a well-placed bullet went into the fox on a distance of 20m, it died instantly and 30 min after a small boar appeared but the speed was high so I let it pass. My friend was fortune and got three male fallows and managed to shoot a spiker. The day after I took the same stand and shot additionally one spiker that were out on the cutting area feeding spruce plants.
A colourful piglet and a sow came into a food plot one evening when it was full moon. My 30-06 talked and a 33kg wild boar ended up in the freezer.
This Sunday we were out repairing some stands so everything is set until the driven hunts begin.
Bockjakt 2018
